Class 1a's Special Visitor im November 2018
IPS Stollberg had a special visitor from London. The English bear Ben stayed for 3 weeks in class 1a and in other classes. He came to experience and to learn the way of school in Germany. He accompanied the kids during their lessons, assisted our office staff, had a meeting with our school directress, Mrs. Blankenship-Küttner and spent the weekends with his new friends. Ben also came to help the kids learn English and to teach them about his city, London. Through his visit, he became more familiar with the traditions and cultures in Saxony, especially in the Erzgebirge. We could also follow the bears’ adventures through their blogs: www.ukgermanconnection.org/kids-bears-blog that the class updated during their visit.
Ben the Bear is an international school project that IPS Stollberg joined. It is sponsored by the UK-German Connection (http://www.ukgermanconnection.org/home). While Ben was in IPS Stollberg his friend Alex, the German bear, was staying in our partner school the Northampton International Academy in England. Class 1a and their partner school are going to establish some projects that will promote the students’ intercultural skills.
The bears’ visit supported the children’s foreign language acquisition in an interactive and fun way. The children had the chance to participate actively in developing their blog. Moreover, the partnership between IPS Stollberg and NIA might just be a beginning of a long-term exchange and cooperation between the two schools.
