Together with our class mascot, Stanley the stork, we got to know Frieda and Gerome - a real stork couple with a big task. Almost like in a picture book, our class accompanied the nest construction, the incubation and finally the miracle of life: five eggs were laid and four little storklings were born! Now two stork chicks are still in the nest and are being tirelessly cared for by their parents. The other two have already flown off, say the children.
As if we were little birdwatchers ourselves, we tuned into the nest day after day via storkcam. We held our breath when Frieda and Gerome fed their chicks and there was a real storm and cheering when the chicks tried to stand for the first time. It was exciting, funny, sometimes even a little touching, but above all quite educational.
Stanley taught us a lot: about storks, about nature and about wonder. Now that the real young storks are slowly getting bigger, we are full of anticipation - who knows when they will spread their wings for the first time? And we already know that the day will soon come when they themselves will glide across meadows and fields and embark on the adventure of life.
