Tom, Huck & Us: A First Theater Adventure to Remember

On June 18, 2025, the time had finally come: Classes 1a and 1b of our school set off for their very first visit to the theater - a highlight of the current school year that all the children had been looking forward to with great anticipation.

The destination of our excursion: Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn at the Küchwaldbühne in Chemnitz . There was excitement in the air as soon as we entered the theater - and we were not disappointed. The story of Tom and Huck may have been adapted from the original, but the actors did a masterful job of bringing the two boys' thirst for adventure and sense of justice to the stage in a child-friendly and exciting way. The musical interludes that accompanied the play were a particular highlight. With cheerful southern sounds, supported by a banjo, and catchy songs, the children were invited to clap and sing along - and they didn't need to be told twice! The rhythm took hold, eyes sparkled and after just a few minutes, everyone was immersed in the world of St. Petersburg on the Mississippi. In addition to the many funny moments, which included some hearty giggles, it was above all the big "Justice" at the end of the play that gave the audience goosebumps: the young actors - supported by the enthusiastic audience - stood up for what was right, loudly and with great commitment. For many of the children, it was their first ever visit to the theater - and certainly not their last. The enthusiasm was still palpable on the way home, as Tom and Huck lived on in many conversations. A day full of impressions that will live long in the memory!
